HOSA CERT Skills Assessment Practice 2026 – All-in-One Guide to Master Community Emergency Response Team Exams!

The recommended methodology for conducting a search in a multi-story building is to go from the bottom to the top. This approach is grounded in both safety and effectiveness. Starting from the bottom allows responders to control the environment as they ascend, ensuring that they can manage potential hazards, such as smoke or fire, that may rise to the upper floors.

By beginning at the ground level, search teams can also ensure that they account for all areas, including exits and potential escape routes for both victims and themselves. This method facilitates a systematic search pattern, making it less likely for areas to be missed and increasing the likelihood of safely locating anyone who may need assistance.

In emergency situations, moving upwards from the bottom provides greater overall access to the structure, as many occupants will likely attempt to escape downwards, making it crucial to address the lower levels first. The other methodologies, while they may have their merits in specific contexts, do not prioritize the immediate safety and thoroughness needed during a search in emergency scenarios.
